What and Who is Loudoun Plant a Row (PAR)?
Background
Loudoun Plant A Row, founded in 2009 by Julia Brizendine, is part of a national grass roots organization started by the Garden Writers Association known as 'Plant a Row for the Hungry'.
The national Plant A Row for the Hungry program is a people-helping-people program designed to assist in feeding the hungry in our own community. Launched in 1995, this national public service campaign was developed to encourage gardeners to grow a little extra and donate their produce to local soup kitchens and food banks that serve the homeless and hungry.
Loudoun Plant A Row is a uniquely community-based program and we serve Loudoun County exclusively.
In 2010 and 2011, we donated 100 percent of collected produce to Loudoun Interfaith Relief food pantry in Leesburg, VA. Beginning in 2012, we began also donating to Tree of Life Food Pantry in Purcellville, VA.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to promote the growing and donation of local fresh fruits and vegetables through gardeners, farmers and agri-businesses for the purpose of feeding the county's hungry.
